St. Paul's Senior Living Community has again partnered with the Community Foundation of Western PA and Eastern OH for PA OH Gives - Giving Week during the week of June 18-24 to raise funds for benevolent care.

This is the third year in a row the Community Foundation has held this virtual giving event to help non-profits like St. Paul's impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year's event raised a whopping $1.2 million dollars for 62 charities in the region.

In 2021, St. Paul's raised $61,000 during PA OH Gives. Judy Radkowski (center) from the Community Foundation presents the check to St. Paul's Charitable Giving Staff Dawn Hartman (left) and Teresa Findley (right).

"PA OH Gives has been a godsend for our Good Samaritan Fund over the past two years," said Dawn Hartman, Director of Strategic Giving. "When the pandemic made it impossible to hold our large indoor fundraising events, PA OH Gives helped make up the shortfall that we would have had otherwise for residents who depend on benevolent care."

Many non-profits in the region are still struggling from the effects of the pandemic, now coupled with rising inflation.

"We are definitely feeling it at St. Paul's," said Hartman. "We've 'tightened our belt' looking for ways to streamline and reduce costs while still providing the same quality care. The reality is there is only so much you can do to reduce expenses. Donor support is critical to move our mission forward."

Donations for St. Paul's during PA OH Gives will benefit the Good Samaritan Fund. This fund provides support for residents who exhaust their financial resources and can't afford to pay for the full cost of their care. 62% of the residents at St. Paul’s in skilled nursing care and 15% of those living in personal care depend on benevolent care.

A special perk of PA OH Gives is that any donations made during the week will be matched by the Community Foundation, increasing the impact. The match amount will be prorated based on the total dollars raised by all organizations participating. Each charity will receive the same match amount per dollar raised.

"We are so thankful to be participating in PA OH Gives again this year," said Hartman. "Our donors look forward to this event now. It gives them the chance to time their giving in such a way to increase the dollar value of their gift from the match."

The Community Foundation is not collecting any fees which means 100% of the donations will pass directly to St. Paul's, in addition to the amount the foundation matches.
