St. Paul’s Senior Living Community in Greenville has broken ground for three porticos outside the main entrances of The Villas, The Ridgewood and The Heritage on campus.

Construction will begin the first week in May with a target for completion in August.

Visitors and staff will then be able to drive up to the main entrance under roof, providing protection from inclement weather.

“With the fair amount of rain and snow we receive in the Greenville area, our residents and visitors needed this addition,” said St. Paul’s Development Specialist Dawn Hartman. “It will mean better comfort and safety for everyone who is coming and going.”

In April 2017, St. Paul’s kicked off the “Raise the Roof” fundraising campaign with a goal to raise $500,000 for the project.

By November, that goal was surpassed and plans to start construction in the spring got underway.

“The board of directors, the staff, our residents and their families, and other community partners really got behind this project and gave so generously to make it a reality,” said Board Chair David Reeves. “We are so grateful for that support.”

The generous lead gift for the campaign was made by family member Richard Jones, whose wife Patti has resided at The Heritage since 2017. The portico at The Heritage will be named in her honor.

“Once again, St. Paul’s is adding to their amazing vision for the best, most beautiful resident and guest-friendly accommodations anywhere,” said Jones. “From the moment you drive up to the entrance, you know this is the right place to care for your loved ones. Patti and I are grateful that we are a part of St. Paul’s.”

Another key gift for the campaign was received from the Anderson Charitable Foundation of Greenville. Doug Anderson is the immediate past chair of St. Paul’s board and has served on the board for 25 years.

Local contractor R Builders of Greenville won the bid to complete the project. While construction is underway, alternative visitor access will be in place for each building. For more information about those changes, please click here.
