The "It's All About Heart" Facebook campaign, St. Paul's first attempt at crowdfunding, raised a total of $8,135 to support the Eden Alternative in the month of February.
"We weren't sure what to expect for our first attempt," said Dawn Hartman, Director of Planned & Major Giving. "We were pleasantly surprised by the number of people who gave and shared the campaign with others. I think the story of what we were raising money for resonated with a lot of people."
The Eden Alternative is the philosophy of care at St. Paul's. Its goal is to create a meaningful life for all residents through the chance to build healthy relationships, the encouragement to grow and learn new things, the opportunity to give as well as receive care and the excitement of variety and spontaneity in daily life. Donors support these efforts by directing gifts to the Eden Alternative.
The "It's All About Heart" campaign kicked off on February 1 on St. Paul's Facebook page. Crowdfunding is a newer form of fundraising that seeks to raise small gifts from a large group of people via the internet.
The campaign consisted of a series of videos shared on Facebook of residents and staff telling their stories about why the Eden Alternative is so special and encouraging donors to give.
The fundraiser got an extra boost from a generous donor who pledged to match all gifts made in the month of February, up to $5,000.
In addition to the online gifts, St. Paul's also received several donations in the mail and in person.
"Thank you so much to everyone who gave and shared this fundraiser on social media," said Hartman. "You made it a success! Because of you, the residents at St. Paul's will be able to enjoy some very special moments in the upcoming year."
